This short note is presented to not only record the presence of amphibians recorded on the Orono Crown Lands (OCL) with a comment about their status, but also to encourage the reporting by trail users of these and other Ontario species.
Of the 21 species of amphibians typically found in Ontario, only 9 species have been recorded on the OCL as known by this author. _
Gray Tree Frog

Red-spotted Newt (Notophthalmus viridescens) rare
Eastern Redback Salamander (Plethodon cinereus) uncommon
American Toad (Bufo americanus) abundant
Spring Peeper (Hyla crucifer) common
Gray Tree Frog (Hyla versicolor) rare
Wood Frog (Rana sylvatica) common
Northern Leopard Frog (Rana pipiens) common
Green Frog (Rana clamitans) common
Pickerel Frog (Rana palustris) once fairly common, now rare
Other Ontario species
(possible but not yet recorded on the OCL site)
Mudpuppy (Necturus maculosus) OCL is within its normal range
Spotted Salamander (Yellow-spotted Salamander) (Ambystoma maculatum) OCL is within its normal range
Blue-spotted Salamander (Jefferson Salamander) (Ambystoma jeffersonianum) OCL is within its normal range
Striped Chorus Frog (Pseudacris triseriata) OCL is within it's normal range
Mink Frog (Rana septentrionalis) not generally found quite this far south
Bullfrog (Rana catesbeiana) OCL within it's normal range but becoming very scarce throughout it’s entire range in Ontario.
